Ch 7 · The Ethics of Artificial Intelligence · Theory
Topic 7 of 9 in Computing Ethics & Ownership — Responsibility in Tech — 3 lessons.
Bias In, Bias Out
AI systems learn patterns from training data. If that data reflects human bias, the AI reproduces and can amplify it — for example, a hiring model trained on biased past decisions may unfairly rank candidates. This is algorithmic bias, and it's a central concern of the new IB machine-learning content.
Fairness, Transparency, Accountability
Wider Impacts
Ethics also covers the broad effects of computing: jobs changed or automated away, the digital divide between those with and without access, and the environmental cost of manufacturing devices and running huge data centres. Responsible computing weighs these too.
