Intellectual property (IP) is a creation of the mind — software, music, writing, designs. Copyright automatically gives the creator control over how their work is copied, shared and sold, usually for a set number of years.

Copying software, media or code without permission is piracy — a copyright breach — even when it's easy and free to do.
